Buc-ee's Faces Backlash Over Beaver Lawsuit

Emerging retail giant, Buc-ee's is facing serious backlash from their loyal fan base over a lawsuit they recently filed against a Mom and Pop mini mart.

Buc-ee’s opened its largest-ever store April 6 in Huber Heights, Ohio. Buc-ee's is known for its 120 fuel pumps, clean bathrooms, cheap gas, loads of food items and lots of beaver-branded merchandise featuring a smiling beaver wearing a baseball cap. Buc-ee's is also know for rigorous litigation to protect its brand. Its latest target is Beaver’s Mini Mart, a mom-and-pop-style convenience store in Beavercreek, Ohio with a sign featuring a smiling cartoon beaver. Beaver's has been using the name and logo since 1989. The lawsuit has garnered national attention. Buc-ee's spokesperson, Artie Fishall, appeared on a national morning news show and presented the comparison below, stating that it's obvious Beaver's Minimart is trying to confuse customers with their logo. The fact that the minimart had the smiling beaver first just means that it was a premeditated act.

While this David vs. Goliath battle has been making national headlines, Real Real News Network has uncovered another, more shocking 'battle of the logos'. Buc-ee's is also suing a magazine touted as 'Entertainment for Men and Lesbians' and 'Home of the Smiling Beaver'. While we can't print the name of the magazine, we can say that the magazine's name is simply Bucee's with the 'B' changed to an 'F'. RRNN's Chandelle Steele conducted an exclusive interview with Arti Fishall of Buc-ee's about this lesser known lawsuit:

Chandelle: Good morning Mr. Fishall. Do you really think that the customers of your family oriented retail stores will confuse (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine' with Buc-ee's?

Artie Fishall: First off, I'd like to say that I believe magazines such as this are repugnant and anyone who reads them - or worse - looks at the pictures, is not the kind of person we want in our family-oriented stores. But isn't it obvious? (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine' not only turned the Buc-ee's name into an 'F' bomb, they even ripped off the baseball cap idea. (Artie holds up a well-worn copy of the latest issue) You can see the baseball cap covering this girl's beav... uh... pu... uh... vessel. Blatant rip off designed to confuse people with our brand. But it goes deeper. This issue's center spread, and I do mean 'spread', not only features a, shall we say, smiling beaver, but also a ball cap between the girl's... uh... bosoms. But it gets worse. Every single issue of (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine' has pictures of smiling beavers and ball caps. Every one!

Chandelle: So you have looked at these magazines?

Artie Fishall: Well, only in the interest of researching the case. I even went so far as to subpoena the phone numbers of those poor girls. Every one of them. I've taken a few of them out for dinner to let them know that our case isn't against them. It's only against (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine'.

RRNN also spoke with a Buc-ee's team member who was featured in 'the Magazine'. She has asked to remain anonymous:

Chandelle: So, you work at Buc-ee's and also appeared in (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine'?

Anonymous girl: Yes, Buc-ee's has friendly people and really good benefits and all, but (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine' did the photo shoot in the Bahamas. I was there for two weeks. Let's just say that the guy in overalls ordering the Big Buc-ee Barbecue Brisket Basket doesn't own a luxury yacht with party rooms and mirrors above the beds. I can't say whose yacht it was, because (whispers) he's an international spy (giggles). As soon as he completes this mission, he's gonna' come here and marry me. I mean, you know, Buc-ee's is a nice place to work and all, but I gotta' say, sometimes I think the smell of barbecue sauce is going to gag me, and trust me, I don't gag easily.

Chandelle: Thanks for that. (Brief pause) Say, could you give me a contact for (makes quotes with fingers) 'the Magazine'. That Bahamas thing sounds like fun. Wait? Is this mic still on? Turn it off. Now!
