Fauci waives fifth amendment during Senate hearing while reiterating that masks provide protection

fauci.png

In a surprise move, Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and generally considered the leader of medical policies adopted by the federal government during the COVID-19 pandemic, informed Senate hearing officials that he would not continue to invoke his right to silence under the fifth amendment.  An early morning email to Senator Rand Paul from Dr. Fauci's chief attorney, Barry D. Evidence, stated:

"Despite two days of testimony in which my client repeatedly invoked his right to silence under the fifth amendment, our team has decided on a new strategy of open communication. Dr. Fauci has agreed to waive his right to silence at future hearings. He wishes to remind the Honorable Senators and the US public of the protection afforded by masks."

When Dr. Fauci and his team reported to chambers this morning, Dr. Fauci was wearing two N95 masks, presumably to show solidarity with his repeated admonition to the American public during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the usual hearing introductions, Senator Rand Paul began the questioning of Dr. Fauci. Our Chandelle Steele was there and secretly recorded the proceedings with a recorder hidden in her cleavage:

Senator Paul: "Good morning Dr. Fauci. We are pleased to have received notice that you have agreed to an open dialogue today. Thank you for your willingness to help the American people understand what happened during the pandemic. May I assume you are wearing the mask to show support for your policies during the pandemic?"

Dr. Fauci: "Mmmfgherbdghwmmh"

Senator Paul: "Could you please be more clear?"

Dr. Fauci: "Bmhghverthufghum"

Senator Paul: " Doctor, could you please remove your mask so we can understand you?"

Dr. Fauci (still double masked): "Wffghdshmnberduf"

We're sorry to report that just as Senator Paul started going ape-shit crazy, our story was cut short. According to RRNN's Chandelle Steele:

"A Senator who had been staring intently at my cleavage finally noticed the recorder, and after a bit of what might be called a kerfuffle, I was ushered from chambers. Once the unnamed Senator made sure we were outside of the Senate chambers and the door was closed, he invited me for drinks in his office this evening. I'll be reporting more on that story as it breaks, hopefully with video. I love this job."
